Black Lives Matter to God and They Matter to Us: A Statement on the Derek Chauvin Trial
Black lives matter to God and they matter to us. The Sheil Catholic Center staff recognize that the conviction announced in the Derek Chauvin trial today is another step in the struggle for racial justice and an end to police violence against people of color.
Today, we pray for the family of George Floyd, all those killed unjustly and unnecessarily, and those who continue to suffer on a daily basis due to white supremacy. At the same time, we know that prayer gives us strength for action and we will continue the work that we must do as a faith community to work for the kin-dom where every human life is valued as being part of God’s family.
Please reach out if you’d like to talk. Our campus ministers are here for you. We also welcome all students to join our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion group by contacting Tim Higgins. Let us pray and work for the kin-dom together.
