Welcome

The Catholic Students Association (CaSA) is an oasis and home for all undergraduate students seeking to be refreshed through prayer, fellowship, formation, and service.  CaSA works alongside the Sheil Catholic Center team to create a welcoming space to walk with students no matter where they are in their spiritual life and help them grow in coming alive in the Love of Jesus.

CaSA Small Groups

All undergraduate students are invited to join in one of the following small groups. Groups start the week of April 6 (except for "Isaiah: Prophet of Hope," which will start Week 4), and you can join on a rolling basis.  All groups will meet at the Sheil Catholic Center in the downstairs Newman Lounge.  Sign up here! Your group leader will be in contact with you for more details soon.  Any questions, reach out to Martina at martina.ricca@northwestern.edu. Here is the info on the new small groups:

Reaching Out: Learning to Trust in God – led by Franco Arnaiz

  • Meets Tuesdays at 8pm
  • What does it look like to trust in God? Why can it feel so hard to reach out to Him sometimes? Join us in this small group to explore faith, hope, and trust in the context of our faith. We'll have casual discussions, read Scripture, and look into prayer over five meetings to discover the beauty of God's promises and the safety of His love for us. Everyone is welcome!

Bible Study: Book of Revelations – led by William Fisher

  • Meets Thursdays at 2pm
  • Are you curious about the Book of Revelations? So am I! Join me in this group as we explore the meaning behind many of the symbols featured in the book, such as the Four Horsemen and Red Dragon, and delve into the book's many connections to the Old Testament.

Isaiah: Prophet of Hope – led by Davi Leal

  • Meets Mondays at 2pm
  • This Bible study revolves around one key question: how does Isaiah shed light on the New Covenant brought about by Jesus Christ? We will explore the historical context of ancient Israel's complex relationship with God and examine the prophecies of Isaiah that foreshadow Jesus, such as the coming of Emmanuel and the Suffering Servant. We will also reflect on Isaiah's rich theological themes, including God's universal love for humanity, the Day of Judgment, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Though composed centuries before Jesus' coming, Isaiah's inspired prophecy remains a crucial foundation for understanding the Messiah's mission.

The Early Doctors of the Church – led by Chase Harrison

  • Meets Fridays at 2pm
  • In this small group, we will examine early Church history through the lives of the doctors of the Church. Our five sessions will focus on the four Latin doctors of the Church (St. Ambrose, St. Augustine, Pope St. Gregory the Great, and St. Jerome), as well as St. Thomas Aquinas. In each meeting, we will talk about the life of one of these saints, read and discuss excerpts of their writing, and strive to understand their significance to Church history. I look forward to learning more about the early Church with you all!
