The Sheil Catholic Center gives students and associates the opportunity to deepen their faith with God each quarter through a variety of retreats. The retreat programs are led by a team of Sheil staff, students, and/or associates. Each retreat is held in a sacred setting with ample time for prayer, reflection, and conversation.

Annual Retreats

Kairos Student Retreat | November 11-13, 2022

Students are invited to step away from campus and leave their obligations and deadlines behind to tend to the movements of God in their lives. Kairos is an opportunity to rediscover who they are and who God is in their lives. No matter where one is on the spiritual journey, all are welcome!  The annual Kairos retreat is student led and a great opportunity to meet new friends, spend time in conversation and prayer, and to give yourself the space to breathe and refresh the heart and mind. The cost of the retreat is $100. Scholarships are available.

Graduate Students and Young Adults (GYA) Retreat | October 1-2, 2022

Do you enjoy the outdoors or want to experience a night in nature? Come join GYA on our camping retreat this fall, October 1-2. The goal is to praise the Creator as we delight in His beautiful creations! We’ll be going up to Kettle Moraine State Forest to do some hiking, kayaking, campfire reflections, picnics, stargazing, and more! No camping experience or equipment is required. Cost is $50. Quarterly Days of Renewal: Sacred Spaces Series | Fall 2022-Spring 2023

All students and associates are invited to the Quarterly Days of Renewal. We will gather at the Sheil Catholic Center, Evanston from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. These days of renewal will be an opportunity for the entire Sheil community to come together each quarter to build community and to refresh our hearts and minds. The cost is $5 for students (scholarships available) and $25 for associates, for each day.

See the Sacred | October 22, 2022 - with Kate Williams, Vice President of Sacred Music at GIA Publications

Kate is the Vice President of Sacred Music at GIA Publications, Inc. She holds a Bachelor of Music Composition degree from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois as well as a Masters of Arts in Liturgical Studies degree from Catholic Theological Union in Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago where it was her privilege to study as a distinguished Bernardin Scholar.  She serves as workshop leader, consultant, and musician in the Archdiocese of Chicago and abroad, following a passion to serve in multicultural, multigenerational communities, while mentoring young voices and building bridges through music ministry.

Busy Student Retreat | January 22-26, 2023

The Busy Student Retreat enables all students to take a retreat while staying on the Evanston or Chicago campus and continuing with your classes. The retreat will begin with 5:00 Sunday Mass, followed by dinner and introductions. Then on the following days, you will spend half an hour in private prayer on your own and a half hour meeting with a spiritual companion. The meeting times will be arranged at a mutually convenient time for you and your spiritual companion (remote meetings may also be possible). The retreat concludes on Thursday with a special event in the evening following the 5:00 PM mass.

Graduate & Young Adult Retreat | Spring 2023

Join other graduate students and young adults for a spring retreat.  The retreat day (from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) will include witness talks, reflection, adoration, and prayer.  We'll gather at Sheil Catholic Center, Evanston. The cost of the retreat is $50 and lunch is included. Scholarships are available.

Student Spring Retreat | April 28-30, 2023

Come to Sheil's Encounter retreat for undergraduates. Encounter is an invitation to go deeper in your relationship with the Jesus and with fellow students who are companions on the journey. Student-designed and student-led, Encounter takes you to the beautiful La Salle Manor in Plano, IL for conversation, prayer, and reflection. Come back renewed in heart and mind. The cost of the retreat is $100. Scholarships are available.
