Our Daily Bread: Food for Neighbors in Need

Join students and associates as we pack and deliver food to neighbors in need. After the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Mondays, all are invited to help pack snack packages that will be dropped off at one of Evanston's community refrigerators. Our Daily Bread will begin Monday, September 28th and continue through Monday, November 30th. Questions? Contact Tim Higgins at 847.328.4648 or via email here.

Giving Tree: Thanksgiving & Christmas Care for Neighbors in Need

Thanks to everyone who participated last year! Stay tuned for another season in 2027!

Stop by to pick up a flyer in the commons at Sheil Catholic Center, Evanston in mid-November or simply look at the list of giving tree items below to select an item to donate.

Below are a list of items requested by one of the organizations that Sheil supports during the holidays (Evanston neighbors in need and Connections for the Homeless). The Evanston neighbors' names have been given to us via St. Vincent de Paul Society from our local sister parishes). We welcome:

  • Food Items:  Non-perishable food items such as peanut butter, spaghetti, beans, etc. See full list here.
  • Gift Cards: You are welcome to donate gift cards in $20 denominations. We have been asked by the organizations with whom we work that the gift cards be to places such as Food4Less, Aldi, Valli Foods, Walmart, and/or Target so that the families can purchase food or small gifts for their children over the holidays.
  • Small Teddy Bears or Small Stuffed Animals: Small stuffed animals that can be given with the food items and gift cards to the local families.
  • Clothing: Adult undergarments, socks, hats, and gloves (for all genders).

Drop Off Items

Please drop off all items by November 16th so we can be sure they get to the people in need by the holidays.

  • Sheil Catholic Center, Evanston: Please bring all items to Sheil Catholic Center's Evanston campus between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or before or after Mass on Sundays. Please make sure to give any gift cards to campus minister Tim Higgins or drop them off in the front office.
  • Sheil Catholic Center, Chicago: Please bring all items to the campus ministers on Wednesdays before or after the 12:10 p.m. Mass.
  • Farther Afield: If you are not local or unable to bring your items to Sheil, but would like to donate gift cards, please mail them to Sheil Catholic Center, c/o Tim Higgins, 2110 Sheridan Road, Evanston, IL 60201.
